Mandala Paint Party
"The Beginning" Mandala Paint Party by Emily Knoe
Our next paint party will be this beautiful mandala on October 10th, at Velo Creek Bike and Brew, a local coffee and bicycle shop in Oviedo, FL.

"Mandala" is Sanskrit for "circle".  Mandala artwork is meant to be spiritually reflective while being relaxing to create.  The repetitive pattern work in a mandala allows the artist to focus on their thoughts while they create something beautiful.

I Am An Oyster

PictureStudy of an oyster, Emily Knoe
While reading the news today, I found myself reacting to a tragedy as if it happened right before my eyes.  This is not new.  This happens frequently.  I cannot count how many times a day I come extremely close to breaking down in tears.  I cannot count how many times I stop and pray for strangers, or thank God for a stranger in the news who did not succumb to their injuries in some tragedy.  I become so shaken when reading the news, that I often have to stand up and leave the area.  I will go make a hot tea, or take a quick walk around the building.

PictureA piece from Nick Criscitelli's upcoming show "The Green Children"
Emily Knoe, of Knoe Studios, recently had the privilege of sitting down for an interview with local artist Nick Criscitelli.  Based in Sanford, FL, the artist is originally from Springfield, MA and studied Fine Art at the University of Central Florida, receiving his BFA in 2012.  His work has been exhibited at the Orlando Museum of Art, UCF gallery, Godspeed Gallery, KDMG Studios, and Current Art Gallery.

Since we know Nick Criscitelli personally, we were able to convince him to join me for lunch to discuss his upcoming show on September 25th, at Rabbitfoot Records in Sanford, FL.  We got off to a bumpy start with audio recording problems, but we quickly regained our footing and had an enjoyable conversation about this series.

Tell us about your upcoming show

My new series is called The Green Children.  It’s an idea that I’ve been working on now, for about 3 years.  2012 is when I first started really working on it, and only in the past, maybe, four or five months, have I really started to put everything together.  But, now I’m trying to do a show, so I find myself more concentrated and focused.

Careless, 2015
This drawing all started with a yellow acrylic painting on watercolor paper made by my 22-month-old daughter. I got inspired by the painting and decided to make a little drawing on it. I didn’t intend on any specific subject matter. I just let the shapes come together until they spoke to me.

Oviedo, FL – Greater Life Church of Oviedo, FL, with Knoe Studios, will be holding a one night painting event on July 18th, 2015 to raise funds for missions in Alaska.  During the event, attendees will be painting a scene of the Northern Lights. For each thirty dollar ticket sold, fifteen dollars will go straight to Camp Agaiutim Nune construction costs.  The “Painting with a Mission” fundraiser will be held at 387 W. Broadway St, Oviedo, FL on Saturday, July 18th, beginning at 6:00 p.m.   Tickets must be purchased in advance, click here.

We are excited to offer this fun and creative way to raise money for the construction costs at Camp Agaiutim Nune in Alaska.  Camp AN has been blessing the lives of the children and teens of Alaska’s West Coast villages for 19 years.  We’ve designed a scenic Northern Lights painting to honor this mission.  We’ll be guiding the group, step-by-step, through the painting, which they get to take home at the end of the night!

All art supplies are included and each attendee will leave with a 16x20 scenic Northern Lights painting they will create themselves.

Seats are limited, so purchase tickets in advance in order to attend the “Painting with a Mission” event on July 18th, 2015.

Here's a little project I did with this year's Craft Party theme!  Recapture: Bring new meaning to old photographs.  I love this picture of little me, many years ago, posing like a hula girl, probably having no idea what any of it meant!

I added embroidery floss to give dimension and texture to the grass skirt and lei.  I really like how it turned out, and now I've got something to wear if there are any luaus this Summer!

There's only two more weeks to get your tickets to the Craft Party we are hosting on June 6th.  Don't forget to sign up in advance, as space is limited.

Etsy Craft Party 2014

It's time for the annual Etsy Craft Party!!  Make it a great night out, crafting and socializing on June 6th. #CraftParty

What is Craft Party? Every year, people from around the world come together on the same day in locally organized Etsy Craft Parties to create art and inspire each other. In 2013, more than 11,000 people took part in Craft Parties in locations across the globe.

This year’s suggested theme is Recapture: Bring New Meaning to Old Photographs. We’ll ask partygoers to find and bring a special photograph, perhaps one that carries personal memories and nostalgia.

We will have a few craft options to choose, with guided instruction.  We plan on having a printing station, so you can make a copy or print a photo to use, so you can hang on to that precious vintage family photograph.  We will also be providing all the craft supplies and refreshments!  And don't forget the goodie bags and door prizes!

The party will be at Life Community Church in Winter Springs:

395 Tuskawilla Rd.

Winter Springs, FL 32708
